Project overview

Peninsula Diesel, a heavy machinery, truck, and diesel mechanic company based on the Mornington Peninsula, approached Safecoat to revitalise the flooring of their two separate facilities.

The existing floors were well-worn and required a durable solution to handle the daily rigours of heavy machinery use. The client also required a clear delineation between different facility zones, such as walkways, workshop areas, and exclusion zones.

Challenges

The main challenge was to provide a flooring system that could withstand the harsh conditions of heavy everyday use while also meeting the aesthetic requirement for multiple colours to demarcate specific zones. Additionally, the preparation process involved eliminating contaminants from the existing floors, ensuring proper adhesion for the new flooring system.

The Safecoat solution

Safecoat selected Sika’s Multidur ET-14 3 Coat System for its high-build, high-solids epoxy properties, which provided excellent impact and chemical resistance. Before applying the system, we performed a thorough degreasing process followed by diamond grinding to ensure all contaminants were eliminated, maximising adhesion and the longevity of the new flooring.

To minimise disruptions to Peninsula Diesel’s workflow, Safecoat executed the project in stages, allowing for continuous operation across both facilities. This phased approach ensured that neither facility needed to be completely shut down, allowing Peninsula Diesel to maintain their daily operations with minimal impact.

DURABILITY & RESISTANCE

The Multidur ET-14 system provided exceptional durability, capable of withstanding heavy machinery use while maintaining its integrity over time.

SAFETY & ZONING

Multiple colours were used to clearly mark different zones, improving safety by delineating walkways, workshop areas, and exclusion zones.

OPERATIONAL CONTINUITY

The phased approach allowed Peninsula Diesel to continue its operations without a complete shutdown, ensuring business continuity throughout the refurbishment process.

“Safecoat delivered a solution that met all our needs— durable, safe, and visually effective. The entire project was managed professionally, and the team ensured minimal disruption to our daily workflow.”
