Marvel Stadium, one of Melbourne’s most iconic venues, required an upgrade to several of its gate entrances and foyers. The existing vinyl tiles were deteriorating after 25 years of heavy foot traffic. To refresh these high-traffic areas and match the adjoining liquid-applied flooring, a durable and visually cohesive flooring solution was needed.
The key challenges included selecting a system that could withstand constant heavy traffic and comply with slip resistance standards while also ensuring ease of cleaning for venue staff. Additionally, the project had to be scheduled during limited downtime to avoid disrupting the stadium’s busy calendar of events.
Safecoat recommended and installed a 6mm Sika Purcem Polyurethane Cement flooring system, renowned for its impact and chemical resistance and long-term durability. We worked closely with the client to test and finalise the right colour and texture through live onsite samples. Our team then removed the old vinyl tiles and adhesives, diamond ground the substrate, and applied the new flooring system, including a UV-stable topcoat and anti-slip tactiles as per Australian Standards.

The finished flooring now seamlessly integrates with the stadium’s existing surfaces, delivering exceptional durability to handle high foot traffic and regular cleaning.
The nonslip finish enhances patron safety, while the UV-stable topcoat helps maintain colour over time.
